This interactive exhibit designed for children from 5-12 years old, invites visitors to discover the beauty and science in motion all around us through 14 different stations. Visitors can play with motion as the experiment with the effects of wind on water, produce art using the movement of pendulums, feel and see the vibrations made by an upright bass and race cars down a retractable ramp.
Michael Feyers, Science Curator, says, “This exhibit really allows children to understand the diversity of motion and how much affect it has on everyday life.”
Some stations include a “Dancing Wall,” “Animals in Motion” and “Touchable Tornadoes. The “Dancing Wall” allows visitors to create their own light and sound show by dancing around a giant kiosk. “Animals in Motion” lets you control the speed of different animals from videos donated by the National Geographic Channel. At the “Touchable Tornadoes” station visitors can change the wind and speed of a tornado to see the effects.
Ron
Roth, Director and CEO, stated, “This
exciting, hands-on show gives children an
opportunity to learn about motion while
still having a great time. Parents can also
enjoy the exhibit, making it a meaningful
family experience.”
An educational cart is also available, which
includes educational materials and two activities;
a spouting bowl and spin art.
Cool Moves! Artistry of Motion was developed by the Sciencenter in Ithaca, New York and the Rochester Museum & Science Center as part of the TEAMS (Traveling Exhibits at Museums of Science) Exhibit Collaborative with funding by the National Science Foundation. This exhibition is underwritten by grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
